At Citizen Dental Hygiene, every patient gets their appointments preauthorized by our staff. This is a bonus service at our clinic that helps you better understand your insurance, plan your treatment, and use the most of your benefits while paying only what you can afford out of pocket.
Preauthorizing through your insurance allows us to be sure you’ll be covered for the various stages of treatment. Knowing what your insurance covers allows us to give you the best care possible, with no surprises at the end of your appointment. We value transparency, and want to make sure you feel certain about the care and price of the treatment you will be getting.
When we see that something will not be fully covered, we can then give you the option to remove that from your treatment plan. If we see that you have more coverage, we can make sure you are getting the most out of your benefits!
A preauthorization does NOT charge your insurance. It is simply our clinic securely asking the insurance company if they will cover a proposed treatment plan. They will send us (or in some cases, only you) a response letting you know what they will cover for that appointment. You may get a statement in the mail, but it does not mean your insurance has been charged, or that we have received any payment from them.
At Citizen, we understand the world of insurance coverage can be really confusing, so we do the added service of checking your insurance before you even walk into the clinic in order to make sure you feel at ease with your upcoming treatment and the cost by helping you understand what your coverage is. We automatically preauthorize all appointments for the benefit of the patient. We value being honest and transparent about pricing, fees, and treatment. We believe every patient has the right to use the most of their benefits, and to know when they will have to pay out of pocket. If for any reason you are uncomfortable with this process, please let us know when you book your appointment, and we will not go through with your preauthorization.
Oral health care isn't "one-sized-fits-all", and not everyone needs every service. If you are not covered for a polish, but you do not have any staining and very good oral health, you may not see the value in paying for one. By preauthorizing the appointment, we have all the information about your coverage so you can make these decisions about your treatment plan.
Insurance coverage is not standardized, and there are all kinds of plans available for purchase. You or your employer have signed up and pay for a certain type of plan. It can be extremely confusing what is covered and what is not, until we directly ask an insurance company.
Some patients get a lot more scalling (cleaning the teeth) covered than others. Some may also need more scalling because of their unique oral health history. We want to make sure you have the option to make the most out of your benefits if you decide that suits your needs best.
